Dr. George Alan Smith

sbc-smithDr. Smith — in his role as the Assistant Superintendent for Postsecondary Education and Workforce Readiness at the Office of the State Superintendent of Education Office in Washington, D.C. — not only directs that agency’s $50-million budget and approximately 50 full-time employees. He oversees dozens of branches of the agency, including programs and initiatives like Higher Education Financial Services, Career and Technical Education, Adult Education and Literacy, Education Licensure Commission, General Educational Development (GED) Testing, and Incarcerated Youth.

Before working in that organization Smith served as the Associate Director at American Council on Education, a program which prepares college and university faculty for senior positions in higher education. Smith — who earned his undergraduate degree from Cornell University — holds both his masters and doctorate in planning and social policy from Harvard University.
