Freewheelin’ Community Bikes is an Indianapolis-based non-profit organization where adults provide children with a wide range of programming involving bicycle safety, mechanics and training. The children can actually earn their bikes as they learn about how they work.
The organization — located on 34th Street, close to the Monon Trail — also rescues aging and obsolete bikes and gives them new life, returning them to the shiny, freewheelin’ fun machines they once were. Some of those repurposed bikes are resold to the community at an affordable price to help defray the organization’s expenses. The organizing director of Freewheelin’ Bikes is Nancy Stimson.
